"The Boys That Fight the Flames"

Circa March, 1908, the Morning Star newspaper ran a series of articles entitled, "The Boys Who Fight the Flames." Newark's fire companies, as well as Fire Alarm, were covered with their own story. Each article highlighted the men, equipment, mascots, and horses of the company, and included a photo of the men in front of their respective quarters.

The black and white photo you see above was used in the series and accompanied each story as part of the company photo.

By clicking on one of the links below, you'll be able to see the company photo, and read the story of each company exactly as it appeared in the newspaper of the day.

NOTE: The articles about Engines 2 and 5 are missing from the scrapbook. It is hoped that these may be found one day and be included here to complete the set.

I hope you enjoy these detailed accounts about "The Boys That Fight the Flames."
