about the fire to warrant a full page of its own. If anyone has any additional info on any of these
fires, please contact me.

COURT STREET CHIMNEY FIRE

November, 1947
18 Court Street between Broad & Halsey Streets
The members of Engine 3 and Truck 1 operate on the roof at a chimney fire. The building at top center
is the Moore Building, which sat at Court and Halsey Streets. Halsey Street can be seen at the left be-
hind the Foley Chevrolet sign. The blue arrow indicates the First Police Precinct, located at Washing-
ton and Court Streets, and the red arrow indicates the quarters of Engine 3, at Court and Nevada Stre-
ets. The steel aerial ladder is that of Truck 1's 1938 American-LaFrance "500 Series" tillered aerial. The
front car seen under the ladder is Battalion 2's 1945 Chrysler "Royal" sedan, and the car behind it is a
police radio car.

THE FIRE COMES TO THE FIREMEN

Circa May, 1949 - Truck 6's Quarters
443-45 Broadway between Herbert & Hinsdale Places
Firemen attack a deep-seated fire in a garbage truck that was driven to Truck 6's quarters when the truck
was discovered to be on fire. Engine 13 was sent on a Signal 5 to handle the blaze. This was a common
occurrence in all corners of the city for many years. Since the fire was obviously more than a booster line
could handle, a 2-1/2-inch line has been put to work, as this was before the days of 1-1/2-inch line. Note
the Ahrens-Fox tillered aerial parked in Truck 6's apparatus bay.

A BOOSTER JOB FOR 9 ENGINE

Circa March, 1959
Unknown Location
The members of Engine 9 use the booster line from their 1948 American-LaFrance "700 Series Spartan"
pumper to extinguish a mattress fire in the gutter. It's unknown if the burning mattress was on the street
or taken out of a building.
