NFDHA MEETINGS

The meetings of the Newark Fire Department Historical Association are held on the second Tuesday of  January, March, May, July, September, and November.

Meetings start at 6:30 PM sharp, and are held at the NFD Training Academy, 191 Orange Street, between Boyden and Nesbitt Streets.

Last Meeting

The last meeting was held Tuesday, March 9, at the Special Operations Division, 191 Orange Street, Newark. John Sicignano reports that the most important thing that occurred was that a date was set to meet again on Tuesday, April 13, at 18:00 hours sharp. It was not going to be a general NFDHA meeting, but rather a Muster-specific meeting. Plans were made to speak to Damian, Frank, Greg, Rich, and other key members involved in planning past musters, and try to come up with a framework of the many jobs that will need to be assigned for the event. At the April 13 meeting, members in attendance would be assigned to the positions. Having the responsibilities assigned in advance is critical to a smooth operation. Myself and Rich Mackey will have the permit applications filed by then. There are several other smaller elements of preparation for the muster that are in the works presently. We'll try to get everyone caught up to speed by then. An in-depth discussion was had about the association's reorganization. It was decided that civilians, as well as members of the NFD, will be allowed equal membership. A dues structure was proposed of $30 annually for retired members and civilians, and $60 for active members of the NFD. This has not been adopted formally, however. Work will also be started on advertising the annual muster (the muster flyer can be seen in the "Upcoming Events" section). A rig has also been chosen for the 2010 muster mugs.

More information regarding the meeting can be obtained in the March, 2009 issue of the "Journal."

Next Meeting

The next meeting will be held at 18:30 hours, May 11, at the Special Operations Division, 191 Orange Street, Newark. Come early!

Special Muster Meeting

The meeting was held Tuesday, April 13, at the Special Operations Division, 191 Orange Street, Newark. John Sicignano reports: We had a small meeting to discuss the upcoming muster. In attendance was Sam Robinsin of the Antique Fire Association of New Jersey (the North Jersey Chapter of SPAAMFAA). They judge the apparatus for us every year free-of-charge. Also the4re were Keith Nicoliello, of F.D.N.Y., Phil, from Florham Park, and Rich Mackey. I ordered four pizzas and two large sub sandwiches for the Crowd. We ate one pizza in total. The meeting went well anyway. Having Sam there, we talking quite a bit about the set up for judging. We decided that the method of approach will be from Broad Street onto Washington Place, so we will have plenty of room for them to pull over and register. At the same time, photographers will be able to have clear shots of the antiques, before the get crammed together on Washington Street. We are also going to have participation plates made for the first time in years. I have Greg and Orlando Alvarez working on a electronic flyer that we can e-mail to people, and then they can return the registration via e-mail. I will forward it to you when we get it so you can attach it to you NFH site. Damian and I will be ordering the mugs on Friday. I'll also be giving Chief Marcell all the financial records for the NFDHA to give to a CPA. He can get our books straight for once.
